New Hyde Park Village Board Notebook

Here are some of the highlights of this week's meeting.

If you missed the meeting on Tuesday, here are some of the highlights:

  • Trustee Richard Coppola, Jr. noted that the annual subscription drive is coming up for the . He advised residents to make sure that the only checks that they should be making out for this drive are to the New Hyde Park Fire Department.
  • Trustee Donald Barbieri thanked former Village Clerk for his service and noted that he "did a heck of a good job." Mayor Daniel Petruccio noted that the Village is getting very close to announcing Farrell's replacement, which could be before the next Village board meeting.
  • Auditions will be held for the first performance in the theater on . Barbieri said there will be an introductory day for various age groups to come into the new , with children probably coming in the morning, seniors in the afternoon and older children coming in the evening. A date hasn't been set for this yet.
  • There were 21 building permits in the month of February, which is up about 75 percent from last month, according to Trustee Lawrence Montreuil.
  • Petruccio reminded the approximately one dozen people at the Village board meeting that they should vote during the March 15 Village elections even though both Trustee Coppola and Deputy Mayor Robert Lofaro are running uncontested.
  • Regarding the budget, Petruccio noted that the Village has made substantial cuts and is looking at personnel costs.
