New Hyde Park Village Board Notebook April 19

Here are some of the highlights from this meeting.

If you missed the April 19 New Hyde Park Village board meeting, here are some of the highlights:

  • It's that time of year; the first block party came before the board which is scheduled for Saturday, May 14.
  • Trustee Richard Coppola and Trustee Donald Barbieri acknowledged the auxiliary police who were recently honored in a at Nassau County Police headquarters. These officers include Captain John Concannon and APO Rajinder Gujral who received the 300 hours service award as well as Sargeant Nancy Kraft was recognized for her 10 years of service and APO Karl Haas was recognized for 30 years of service.
  • The summer recreation program will start on July 5 and it will continue until August 4, Coppola said. Registration for this program will be done at on June 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Thirty-one trees have been purchased by the Village as of the meeting, according to Superintendent of Public Works Tom Gannon. If there are any last-minute request for trees to be planted, let the Village know, said Deputy Mayor Robert Lofaro.
  • The first play called The Prince Who Wouldn't Talk is being held in the newly-renovated on May 6 at 7 p.m. and May 7 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets can be picked up on April 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., April 30 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and May 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Village hall.
  • There will be a concert in the theater on May 14 at 8 p.m. by a jazz quartet called Nexus, Barbieri said.
  • Plans for the Jericho Turnpike road project are still being reviewed, Barbieri noted. The Department of Transportation is looking over the plans; Barbieri hopes to have an update on that soon.
  • The Village board adopted that was proposed at its April 5 public meeting.
  • There are positions available for two park attendants to work between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
