New Hyde Park Village Board Notebook: April 2

Other news from the April 2 village board meeting.

The New Hyde Park Village Board of Trustees held a meeting on Tuesday, April 2. Here are some things you may have missed.

Tree Replacement

  • Superintendent of public works Tom Gannon reported that the village is exploring vendors to supply trees for the annual spring planting program.
  • Many of the trees being replaced were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Sandy.

Potholes

  • The department of public works is currently out doing pothole repairs and is conducting sawcuts for a more permanent patch in the asphalt. If any residents are aware of areas in need of repair, please notify the department of public works.

Appointments

The board corrected several omissions from the annual reorganizational meeting:

  • Richard Pallisco was named as chair of the parks and recreation commission
  • Frank DiRico was named as a deputy village attorney and the firm of DiRico & DiRico was named as a special retained counsel to the village.
  • The village is seeking volunteers to serve on the parks and recreation, beautification and other committees.

License Renewals

The following businesses were granted license renewals:

  • landscapers:
    • Mezzaucella Contractors Corp. (Franklin Square)
    • Hines & Zaffarese Landscaping (Garden City Park)
  • peddler: Verizon FIOS – Moniqua McCoy (North Babylon).

Building Department

  • The zoning board of appeals will beet on April 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the village hall and hear two cases: 500 North Third St. and 524 North Seventh St.
  • The architectural review board met April 3 and heard one case: Roslyn Savings Bank at 1114 Jericho Turnpike (new sign request).

Other Board News

  • The New Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce will hold their monthly meeting on April 18 at Umberto’s at 6 p.m.
  • The village’s annual Memorial Day Parade will be held on May 25.
  • The village’s annual community cleanup day will be on Saturday, April 27. Volunteers should meet in the parking lot at village hall and will disburse around the community to areas in need of service.

The next meeting of the New Hyde Park Village Board will be on Tuesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the village hall.
