  • Deputy Mayor Robert Lofaro explained the Village's role in snow near the . “One of the first priorities that we work on with this snow is plowing the snow by the railroad and on the days that follow, we’re getting down there at like four o’clock in the morning to remove as much of the snow as possible. There are large mounds of snow that are blocking certain areas that give access up to the platforms. That is not the responsibility of the Village of New Hyde Park to clean up those. Nor is it the Village’s responsibility to clear the at-grade crossings where snow accumulates. The tracks are clear, but as you a pedestrian and you’re trying to get across, there’s a large accumulation of snow. That’s not our responsibility to clear that. I know we’ve gotten some inquiries about that. It’s a matter that we suggest you contact the MTA or the Long Island Rail Road so that they can clear those areas."

Obviously that’s an amount that we have to look at right from the get-go. One of our larger budget lines, an 11 percent increase.” Petruccio added that while an 11 percent increase doesn't help "we will work with what we have," regarding the budget.
