Other news from the May 21 village board meeting.

The New Hyde Park Village Board of Trustees held a meeting on Tuesday, May 21. Here are some things you may have missed.

Jericho Turnpike Project

  • The board held an emergency session on Sunday, May 19 to make further modifications to its Jericho Turnpike project resolution as requested by the state with the difference being the figures changing to $360,000 committed by the village towards a $1.44 million federal grant for a total project cost of $1.8 million.
  • The total cost to the village will be $434,000 which will be covered by grant money received by the federal government.

Building Department

  • The zoning board of appeals met on May 8 and heard four cases: 1513 Belmont Ave. (full second story addition and portico with rear balcony), 1214 Fifth Ave. (open terrace and portico), 809 Sixth Ave. (detached garage), 549 Sixth Ave. (full second story addition allowing for encroachment on east side yard). All cases were approved. The next meeting of the zoning board of appeals is June 12. There are currently no cases on the docket.
  • The architectural review board met on May 1 and approved the following cases: 642 South 12th St. (second story addition). The case at 1513 Belmont Ave. was heard and tabled.
  • The building department issued 23 permits through the month of May.
Budget Transfers

The board made budget transfers in the following amounts from the budget lines listed:
  • $706.61 from trustee personal services, $250 from trustee conferences, $125 from judicial reporter, $300 mayor conferences, $450 treasurer conferences, $500 from assessor conferences, $690 from clerk conferences
  • $975 from elections, $190.80 from election supplies, $250 from election machines, $200 from election ads, $500 from public safety equipment, $3,000 from unemployment insurance $3,873.82 from unemployment benefits in lieu of insurance, $620 from COBRA, $500 from economic public relations, $764.02 from street fair and $5,759,44 from contingency
  • $3,800 to judicial personal services, $2,485.11 to transportation - gas, $559.39 to transportation regrade; $119.18  to off street electric; $7,792 to refuse diesel fuel, $4,900 to social security benefits.

  • A car wash application for Boy Scout Troop 298 to reschedule their car wash from May 11 to June 8 was approved due to inclement weather.
  • The following businesses were granted license renewals: limousine owner: Black Tie Limousine.
  • Sign up for the 2013 summer recreation program will be on June 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at village hall. The program runs from July 8 to August 8. The camp runs two daily sessions, ages 6 to 8 runs rom 10 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m.; ages 9-12 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Memorial Field.
  • The bids for other elements on the Jericho Turnpike project were due back on June 7.
  • The 2013 summer concert series in Memorial Park will begin on Wednesday, June 19 at 7 p.m. with a Rolling Stones cover band. The concert is open to all.
  • Village tax bills without penalty are due back without penalties by July 1.

The next meeting of the New Hyde Park Village Board will be on Tuesday, June 11 at 8 p.m. at the village hall.
