Other news from the September 17 village board meeting.

The New Hyde Park Village Board of Trustees held a meeting on Tuesday, August 20. Here are some things you may have missed.

Use Requests

  • Appco Group US requested permission to conduct door-to-door solicitations on behalf of the ChildFund Internationl and the World Society for the Protection of Animals. The solicitation would take place from September to December, Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • The New Hyde Park Lions Club requested use of a portion of the Central Boulevard parking lot from Friday, Nov. 29 to Friday, Dec. 27 for their annual Christmas Tree sale. Sales will take place Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

FEMA Funding

  • Thus far the village has collected $586,661.26 in FEMA funds relating to cleanup from Hurricanes Irene and Sandy.
  • There is approximately $32,786.57 outstanding from state.
  • The village auditors have decided to exclude those numbers from this years financials as they don’t have an estimated date of when the money will be received from the state, leaving about $32,000 out from this year’s finances.

Building Department

  • The zoning board of appeals will meet on Oct. 9. There are no cases currently scheduled. The architectural review board met on Sept. 4 and approved one case at 406 Brill Place for a construction of a second floor addition. The next meeting of the architectural review board will be on Oct. 2. There are no cases currently scheduled.
  • The village court heard cases with a $2,000 fine levied against 1429 Park Ave. for failure to maintain an exterior wall, property and fence; $250 at 906 Jericho Turnpike for failure to gain access for rental registration; $500 at 646 Eleventh Ave. for roof repair without a permit as well as against a contractor who did not appear.
  • The village board approved a small claim grievance settlement for the 2013-14 tax year for 1005 Sixth Ave. The original levy was $6,840 and was reduced to $6,110, a reduction of assessment of $730 and a refund of $150.53.

  • Nassau Legis. Richard Nicolello, R-New Hyde Park, formally met with the village auxiliary police to give them the new radios that were acquired through the county.
  • The children’s theater will be performing “The Prince that had No Name” on Sunday, Sept. 29, Saturday, Oct. 5 and Sunday, Oct. 6. All shows are at 2 p.m. Tickets are for sale for $2 each at the village hall.
  • The total village levy for the 2014 fiscal year is $4,061,113. Of that amount, $79,383 remains outstanding to be collected from residents, less than 2 percent.
  • The village department of public works is working on design specifications for the replacement of recycling trucks.
  • A special use permit regarding the owner of New Hyde Park Auto Body to expand his business to an auto body shop at 910 Third Ave. was approved.
  • A special use hearing will be held on Oct. 15 for Saf-T-Swim, an indoor swimming facility at 1 Jericho Turnpike. A special use hearing will be held on Oct. 15 for a dance studio moving to 708 Jericho Turnpike.

The next meeting of the New Hyde Park Village Board will be on Tuesday, October 1 at 8 p.m. at the village hall.
