New Hyde Park Village Crew Clearing After Irene

The highway crews are out cleaning up debris.

New Hyde Park Village's highway crews are out clearing Village streets and "removing over a dozen trees that had been uprooted and over 75 major limbs and branches that have fallen," according to Deputy Mayor Robert Lofaro.

Though the crews are working on removing debris, there are some areas that can only be handled after the Long Island Power Authority turns off or otherwise handles the power lines.

"Some of the work can only be done after LIPA has secured the power lines near the tree or branch," Lofaro said, adding, "Areas on Central Blvd, N12th Street, Ingraham Lane, S10th Street, Jasmine Avenue and S18th Street have been adversely affected by the strong easterly winds from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene."
