New Hyde Park Village Notebook: Feb. 15

Here are some of the things that happened at the Village board meeting.

If you missed the last board meeting, here are some of the highlights.

  • The Department of Transportation had a meeting with the Village on Feb. 8 to discussed the revised plans for Jericho Turnpike, said Mayor Daniel Petruccio. He noted that there are one or two details where they want some final input and that there is some wiggle room with a few options.
  • Officer John Concannon asked about video surveillance of the Village hall parking lot as recently the Auxiliary Police car's tires were punctured. Deputy Mayor Robert Lofaro explained that there is a camera that is over the back staircase but that it's not operational, not on the parking lot and doesn't take video but rather is used for real-time monitoring.
  • Trustee Lawrence Montreuil said that on Feb. 9, the zoning board met. There were four cases that were heard, three of which were granted, Montreuil said. The next meeting will be March 9 and one case so far is on the docket, he said.
  • The Village board is working on . They had two evenings of interviews by the time the Village board meeting was held on Feb. 15 and there was one more the following day. Petruccio said that he hopes to have someone in place next week. "I'm very encouraged by the applicants and I think the Village will be well-served by the process," Petruccio said.
  • In Farrell's absence at election and budget time, Eileen Raguseo, the deputy treasurer will handle the budget this year and Dawn Doherty will manage the election this year.
  • The Village board transferred $6,482.22 from one budget line to the line. Lofaro explained after the meeting that the Village board is looking at potentially increasing the snow budget next year by $10,000; it was $30,000 this year.
