New Hyde Park Village Theater No Longer Has $100,000 Grant

This money, which has already been spent, has been pulled back by the State.

The , which has $250,00 worth of work done to it to make it the sight that dozens of people took in at the , lost $100,000 of its grant funding because New York State pulled it back, said Deputy Mayor Robert Lofaro at the Village board meeting Tuesday night.

He explained that the State took that grant money away in December and that the Village board was notified about it in January. This money has already been spent and the board is uncertain of how it will be replaced, but they have reached out to and Assemblymen Tom McKevitt and Ed Ra about this money.

"We’re going to continue to endeavor that all the funding that we anticipated from Senator Johnson is in fact received, but it’s a challenge the board is dealing with and hopefully it will come to a satisfactory resolution," Lofaro said.

Mayor Daniel Petruccio cited that though this might look like the State being more "fiscally prudent or conservative, but the truth of the matter is that this is part of a political interplay that's been going on between Democrats and Republicans that has more to do with the use of funding for votes, and that’s the nature of our business, I know,  but we’re caught in the middle of some crossfire here and it’s unfortunate that people are being used."

Petruccio added that to his knowledge this decision was made before the Republican majority took over and that he didn't know what the motivations behind yanking this grant was.

New Hyde Park Village isn't the only area to lose funding, Lofaro noted. T Supervisor , who was at the grand re-opening celebration, said that they lost grant money in excess of $2 million.
