North Hempstead: No Plans to Evacuate Friday

Town urges residents to contact the 311 Call Center with questions about hurricane safety.

Town Supervisor J said there are no plans as of Friday afternoon to evacuate the Town.

Kaiman sent out a phone message at about 3:30 p.m. to those with lines in North Hempstead. In it he said:

"In regard to the oncoming storm scheduled to hit our area early Sunday morning, please be aware that the Town’s 311 call center is open now and will remain open 24 hours a day to answer any questions you may have. Simply dial 311 to speak to one of our call takers.

"If you live in an area that is subject to coastal flooding, evacuating your home prior to the storm may make the most sense. If you are not sure if your area is an area where evacuation is being recommended, you may call our 311 center and we will give you the most up-to-date information that we have. At this point, there are no mandatory evacuations in our area.

"Again, the North Hempstead 311 call center will be open and taking calls 24 hours a day beginning immediately for information about emergency shelters, evacuation information and other questions you may have about the oncoming storm."
