In the race to be first, there will be a same-sex marriage ceremony at midnight Sunday in the for Frank Fuertes and Patrick Simeone of Westbury, the Town reported.
It's the first legally-possible date to get hitched under the New York State Marriage Equality Act. The ceremony will be performed by . Fuertes and Simeone were previously married in Quebec, Town spokesman Collin Nash said.
"I've been working for a major corporation for more than a decade and up until now I have never been able to put Patrick on my health insurance," Fuertes said. "Now he will have decent health coverage."
Depending on the weather, the wedding will take place in the Mary Jane Davies Park Gazebo or Town hall.
Update: Danielle Smith and Kathryn Wiede of Long Island will also be there early Sunday morning with a Supreme Court Justice who will be talking to them about a potential waiver, Gross said.
