New Hyde Park Village Board Notebook: Nov. 16

Here are some of the issues that were discussed at the Village board meeting.

If you missed the Nov. 16 meeting of the , here are some things that were discussed.

  • Memorial Park has been having its asphalt ripped up and the basketball and volleyball courts need to have their surface colored, Public Works Superintendent said. If the weather stays warm, those colors could be done soon, but it would not be optimal to work on that when it's cold.
  • Deputy Mayor Robert Lofaro mentioned the work that is being done on the Village Hall. There is a door that is being put into the board meeting room used for public meetings and there are changes being made upstairs to the theater area. Trustee Donald Barbieri called the area upstairs "something to be admired."
  • Barbieri said there is some progress that is being made on operation downtown. Plans are being finished and the Department of Transportation's final comments will come in the middle of December, Barbieri said. On some streets that intersect with Jericho Turnpike, there will be a bump out in the curb and a narrowing of the street. Barbieri pointed out that people will have to be more cautious making turns onto these streets.
  • Public Works Superintendent McCloat will be retiring from his position as of Dec. 3. This was his last Village board meeting in this post. He was congratulated by Mayor Daniel Petruccio for hosting a great village street fair. Petruccio said attendance went from about 35,000 last year to 50,000 people this year.
