NY State Police: Avoid Driving in Blizzard if Possible

New York State Police urge caution with storm bearing down on area.

Editor's Note: This article was written and submitted by representatives of New York State Police.

The New York State Police have a full complement of troopers and supervisors assigned to all shifts in preparation of a winter storm approaching the region.

Normal patrol coverage is being supplemented by members from the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit and Traffic Incident Management.

State Police are coordinating with local County Emergency Operations Centers across the state as needed and are prepared for the potential increase in service calls for evacuations and medical emergencies.

State Police are advising motorists to avoid driving during the storm if at all possible and remind motorists if you must drive during a storm to be aware of changing weather and roadway conditions.

Remember, bridge and exit and entrance ramps can be icy when other road surfaces are not. Clean all snow and ice from the entire vehicle and ensure the windshield is clear of frost. If you do become stranded, stay with your vehicle and in an emergency dial 911.
