Operation 'Clean Sweep' Coming to A Block Near You

Street sweepers will hit town roads April 28-May 9

Get ready for some spring cleaning. North Hempstead's "Clean Sweep" program begins Monday, April 28, and runs through Friday, May 9.

“With the toll that this winter season took on our Town roads, this program is more important than ever,” North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth said about the program.  “Our Clean Sweep program will help to return our roads to the  condition that our residents deserve.”

During this annual town-wide spring clean-up, more than a dozen environmentally friendly street sweepers will hit the road to remove detritus  from Town streets.  Approximately 2,000 tons of dirt and debris are removed from the roads each year, with an even higher total expected this year.

In addition to sweeping roads, the Town’s Highway Department cleans catch basins, and sweeps handicap ramps during Clean Sweep.

From Monday, April 28 to Friday, May 2, all Town streets in the unincorporated areas south of the Long Island Expressway will be cleaned.  In order to ensure that every area is thoroughly swept and cleaned, the Highway Department asks that residents refrain from parking their vehicles on the street between 7 a.m. and 3 p,m.
