Primary Care Office Proposed on Jericho Turnpike

Doctor proposing new office in New Hyde Park.

New Hyde Park may be getting a new physician’s office in the near future.

Dr. Sanjeev Nischal, a family practitioner who currently has an office on Flatlands Avenue in Brooklyn, came before the New Hyde Park Village Board this past Tuesday night at the seeking a special use permit to open the practice at 608A Jericho Turnpike.

The building currently houses a law office and has a vacant office, which the doctor is proposing for his practice.

According to Nischal, the primary care practice would be by appointment only. Business hours would be Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is 4-hour parking on the street with a drop off area for patients.

According to Patricia Goodsell, the owner of the building, there are also two reserved parking spaces in the rear of the building that accompanies tenants.

Board trustee Lawrence Montreuil expressed his concerns on medical waste disposal and traffic congestion, but pointed out that the board does not make a determination based on parking issues because it’s a continued use application.

“There is too much double parking on Jericho Turnpike, hopefully it won’t turn out to be a problem,” resident Steven Sewell said.

Dr. Nischal stated that all medical waste will be contracted to proper authorities and estimated that generally the numbers of patients seen in a day should not exceed 15, so double parking and traffic problems should not be an issue.

The case was will go before the Nassau County Planning Commission which will render a decision within 30 days before returning it to the board for a final vote.
