Senior Couples Renew Vows; Polar Plunge is March 2

Some happenings in the Town of North Hempstead.

Depending on the various stages of relationships, Valentines Day can be interpreted many different ways to couples everywhere.

For some it marks the beginning, maybe even a proposal. For others, it's a day to show caring for those we care about. But for others, it's something more.

In the Town of North Hempstead, 85 couples with 50 years or more of marriage rededicated themselves to one another the the town's fourth annual Marriage Vow Renewal Ceremony on Valentine’s Day.

Themed “Love is in the Air,” the mass ceremony was held inside the clubhouse at Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington and hosted by Leslie Gross, the town’s chief marriage officer and clerk.

“It’s wonderful to have all of you here today and I wish you so many, many more years together,” Gross said. “It’s an honor and a blessing to share this day with each and every one of you.”

The couples exchanged some insights on their personal formulas for long-lasting marriages and were treated to lunch.

Town Councilwoman Dina DeGiorgio noted: “In a world where we don’t necessarily recognize family, love and commitment, it’s awesome to be in a room with so many people who obviously do.”

Town To Host Polar Plunge

The Town of North Hempstead Town Board is inviting residents to its annual Polar Plunge at North Hempstead Beach Park.

“Besides being a great event to socialize with family, friends and neighbors and engage in friendly and fun rivalry, the Annual Polar Plunge gives everyone the opportunity to raise funds for a worthy cause,” Supervisor Jon Kaiman said.  “I look forward to seeing you there.”

Registration is at 9 a.m., the plunge takes place at noon on March 2.

Noteable plungers include Kaiman and members of his family, state Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel and North Hempstead Town Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio.

Individuals or teams of plungers can earn fabulous prizes for raising the most money.
