State Crews Complete Repaving of Jericho Turnpike

Lane striping, brick medians and installation of new traffic lights yet to be completed.

New York State crews have finished where they first began in April, near Beebe Road in Mineola, completing the repaving phase of the Jericho Turnpike refurbishment project early on Wednesday morning.

A clean coat of fresh, smooth asphalt now runs the entire length of Route 25 from the Queens border in Floral Park to Glen Cove Road in Mineola after numerous late-night traffic detours and construction woes, most recently of which were noted at the Herricks Road intersection.

The project was originally supposed to end at Herricks Road just outside the village, but was extended through Mineola thanks to the efforts of NY state Sen. Jack Martins and Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss.

Once crews completed work in Mineola, the returned to the city line in Floral Park and began the repaving of the remainder of Jericho Turnpike.

Some Tully Construction crew members were seen still working on the northeast corner of Herricks Road and Jericho Turnpike Wednesday afternoon, repairing and replacing sidewalk and curbcuts.

In the western end of Garden City Park, crews have already completed constructing concrete center medians which will be used as traffic calming and safety measures as well as for beautification purposes. Though repaving has been completed in New Hyde Park, the brick medians still must be put in place. Some crews were seen Sunday near Applebee's in New Hyde Park installing the brick pavers in the medians from large pallets.

Crews will also be going back and restripe many of the lanes and center medians of the project along with crosswalk areas as well as installing new traffic lights and poles at different locations throughout the project.
