Town Hosts A.C. Milan Junior Soccer Camp

AC Milan holds first junior camp on Long Island.

The Italian Soccer Training Exchange Program’s (ISTEP) Milan Junior Camp was recently welcomed to Michael J. Tully Park in New Hyde Park.

Conducted by UEFA (Union of European Football Association) and AC Milan-certified coaches and trainers, the ISTEP junior camp gives young soccer players the opportunity to polish their ball-handling expertise and enhance the development of their individual motor skills.

A total of 94 boys and girls between the ages of 9-14 attended the camp that ran from June 23-29. It was the first Milan Junior Camp to be held on Long Island. Ten of the camp’s participants will be continuing their training for two weeks in Italy.

“It is exciting for our young athletes in the Town of North Hempstead to be able to learn from great trainers like those certified by AC Milan, at a Town facility, right in their own backyard,” Supervisor Jon Kaiman said in a statement. “The Town’s collaboration with ISTEP’s Junior Camp created an exceptional educational and athletic experience for all.”

The goal of ISTEP is to foster the development of US youth soccer players and programs—starting on Long Island—and establish a player exchange program for Italian and American youth players.
