Tully Park Baseball Diamonds Get Facelift

Fields receive needed renovation in time for spring training.

New Hyde Park residents will be able to get into spring training with a newly renovated ballfield.

, councilman Angelo Ferrara and the town’s parks & recreation department announced that the project to renovate and repair the baseball diamonds at was recently completed.

Although maintenance on the fields is continuous, a large-scale renovation only occurs “when absolutely necessary,” according to a release. The town wanted “to make sure that the fields were in pristine playing condition in time for spring, and the start of baseball season.”

Councilman Ferrara stated that “the mild winter allowed our parks department to get an early start on the much needed maintenance of our baseball fields.”

The renovations included new sod on many of the fields and lasted three weeks. On Field No. 2, the lip separating the infield from the outfield was repaired and the clay was also refurbished.  On field No. 3, the baseline, pitcher’s mound and infield were all renovated.
