Waldron Elected New Hyde Park Fire Commissioner

Challenger John Waldron receives over half of votes cast to oust incumbent John Brown.

The New Hyde Park Fire District has a new commissioner.

John Waldron received 348 votes in the 2012 New Hyde Park Fire District election Tuesday night, enough to secure the commissionership from incumbent John Brown.

“I just want thank everyone, all my supporters who came out and voted,” Waldron said at the New Hyde Park Fire Department headquarters Tuesday night. “I think it really showed in the polls. It’s nice to know the community has my back just like I have their back.”

Waldron beat out both Brown and another contender John Neiwander. Brown finished with 171 votes while Niewander received 151. There were a total of 670 votes cast in the election.

Waldron added that he is “looking forward to working with the other four commissioners on the board,” running with fellow members of the fire department in mind, along with the community. “I’m still looking forward to being an active fireman, being a coach and fulfilling my role as commissioner.”
