Denton Avenue Students Visit Long Beach School for Valentine's

Student council members deliver school supplies to West School in Long Beach.

The Denton Avenue Student Council had the true spirit of Valentine’s Day with them when they visited West Elementary School in Long Beach on February 14, 2013 to deliver much needed school supplies.

After Hurricane Sandy, West Elementary School sustained serious damage and students had to be relocated to another school building in the district. Along with the damage to the building, all of the school’s books, crayons, markers, math supplies, and computers were also lost.

When the Denton Avenue School Student Council learned of this situation, they immediately began a campaign to collect the school supplies that West Elementary Schoolneeded. Within two weeks, over 20 boxes of various school supplies were donated by the students and families of Denton Avenue School.

On Feb. 14, 2013, fifth grade representatives from the Denton Avenue Student Council; Peter, Katie, Umer and Chris along with Student Council Advisors; Mrs. Roulett and Mrs. Basini and Principal Haley, went to West School to deliver the donated supplies.

Principal Schneider expressed appreciation for this generous expression of support on behalf of the students and teachers at West Elementary School. This donation drive demonstrated how a school community can reach out and make a difference.
