Denton Avenue Students Celebrate International Dot Day

Students read "The Dot" as part of first Principal's Book of the Month.

Herricks students at the Denton Avenue School began off the school year by coming together to read and enjoy the book “The Dot” by Peter Reynolds as part of a new tradition with the Principal’s Book of the Month.

The goal of the program is to foster a love of literature and a sense of community by reading the same book in each classroom, with Principal Mary Louise Haley selecting books with a positive message. “The Dot” was the September book selection as Reynolds’s work encourages children’s creativity and inspires children to think about how they can make their mark.

Herricks Superintendent Dr. John Bierwirth visited Lori Lombardi’s second grade class and read the story of how one little dot lead to Vashti’s journey of self-discovery with the positive message conveyed by Vashti’s teacher -“Just make a mark and see where it takes you.”
