Denton Holds Read Across America with Earth Day Theme

Parents and community leaders participate in reading event at Herricks elementary school.

In their Read Across America 2013 celebration, the Denton Avenue School chose to honor the theme of Earth Day.

The Denton PTA Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) Committee and school librarian Mrs. Koukoulas invited parents and community leaders to participate as guest readers for this annual reading event.

Fran Reid, the Town of North Hempstead Sustainability Officer, spoke with the Herricks students about the importance of recycling, reusing and reducing.

Throughout the year the Denton Avenue School has participated in a number of school recycling programs and events sponsored by the Town of North Hempstead.

Nassau County Legislator Judi Bosworth, Councilman Dwyer, and Herricks Superintendent Dr. John Bierwirth and assistant superintendent of curriculum Dr. Deidre Hayes also joined in the school event to help foster a love of reading and convey the important message of protecting and conserving the environment.

The faculty and staff of the Denton Avenue School would like to extend a thank you to all of the parents and teachers who participated in the school wide event.
