Denton Third Graders Meet Their Massapequa Pen Pals

Pen pal friends meet in person at Herricks school.

Smiling faces of the students of Mrs. DiOrio’s and Mrs. Glykos’ third grade classes at Denton Avenue School and their pen pals from Mrs. O’Neil’s and Mrs. Kennedy’s classes from Lockhart School in Massapequa recently shown at the Herricks school.

The teachers wanted to give their students an authentic opportunity to practice their friendly letter writing skills and arranged for the students to start exchanging letters in October 2012.

The students learned that social media may be faster but is not always better. They learned to appreciate the anticipation that comes with waiting for the arrival of a letter from their special pen pal.
