In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Nassau Community College Women’s History Month Committee offers events that discuss the politics of gender. All programs take place in the College Center Building and are free and open to the public.

One Woman’s Fight, A Country’s New Law: Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, Monday, March 7, 11:00 a.m. Lilly Ledbetter, worker rights activist and author of the first law President Obama signed, tells her story.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: International Women’s Day, Tuesday, March 8, 10:00 a.m. Esther Armah, WBAI Wake-Up Call host/commentator, leads a discussion.

Panel Discussion on Homeless Teens in Prostitution and Trafficking, Tuesday, March 8, 11:30 a.m. Rachel Lloyd of GEMS (Girls Education and Mentoring Services) heads the discussion. This event is co-sponsored by the NCC Black History Month Committee and Haraya, an NCC club that focuses on the African American experience in the diaspora.

Full Frontal Feminism: A Young Woman’s Guide to What Matters, Tuesday, March 15, 1:00 p.m. Jessica Valenti, founder of feministing.com, author of The Purity Myth and other popular third-wave feminist books and contributor to The Colbert Report and New York Magazine, presents her “slangy, profane and disconcertingly funny” take on how to promote change.
