"Guys and Dolls" a Hot Ticket at New Hyde Park Memorial

New Hyde Park players put on spring production of "musical fable" of Broadway.

Will the Guy get the Girl or conversely will the Girl (Doll) get the Guy? Will the Sinners Repent?

The players let audience members see the answer with three days of performances of the Frank Loesser musical Guys and Dolls on March 8, 9 and 10.

Under the direction of Gary Ferrar, the cast delivered a show exuding excitement and energy topped with gambling, dancing girls, repentance and romance.

Another number was a Latin style dance in the Havana Café where the waiter aka. Liver Lips Louie (Matt Cherson) added some comic relief as he joined in the number.

The musical was so hot during Friday night’s performance in fact that smoke machines set off the schools fire alarm, the school was evacuated as the responded to the scene.

The play holds a special place in Ferrar’s heart according to the director’s notes, as his first experience with the stage when he was cast as a waiter in a 1998 production.

“Having the chance to revisit the show, with such a talented group of kids was very exciting,” he wrote, calling the cast and crew “fabulous.”
