Other news from the April 26 board of education meeting.

The Herricks Board of Education held a meeting on Thursday, April 26. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

APPR

  • The board approved an agreement with Teachscape to train teachers and administrators related to the new .
  • This portion of the program costs $53,000, Superintendent said, calling the APPR program a “mother of an unfunded mandate.”

Textbook Central

  • A program with Textbook Central that supplies books to children who live in the district but do not attend Herricks school was approved by the board.
  • The cost depends on the number of students who attend each school.
  • For the first 25 students who attend a school, it's $25 a student per school; for between 26 and 250 students, it is $20 a student per school; for more than 250 students, it’s $15 a student per school.
  • This program has not increased in cost for the last 3 years.

2012 Budget Vote Appointments

  • The board approved Linda Sammarone as the permanent chairperson at the budget vote on May 15.
  • Debra Virzera, Margaret Joyce, Carol Scaldaferri and Linda Sammarone were approved as chief election inspectors with the following people being election inspectors: Andrea Curtin, Carol Roller, Pat Schelp, Marsha Freiberger, Rosemary Wilenski, Linda Sammarone, Dana Clark, Beth Krass, Liza Virzera, Sushma Sharma, Julia Chang, Theresa Costa, Josie Josef, Becky Nieto, Mary Ann Karbiner and Joanna Wang.
