Herricks Board of Education Notebook: October 18

Other news from the October 18 board of education meeting.

The Herricks Board of Education held a meeting on Thursday, October 18. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Contracts

  •  A contract with Scarsdale Security for the 2012-2013 school year for security and fire monitoring of all of the districts’ buildings, including its elevators, was approved. The company will receive $540 a month. The contract’s amount did not increase from last year; Scarsdale Security has been working with the district for about 9 years.
  • The board approved its agreement with the American Red Cross to use district buildings as emergency shelters.
  • The board approved six agreements with Konica Minolta for replacement copy machines. Each of these agreements will last 60 months. Assistant Superintendent Helen Costigan said that since Xerox has moved out of the area, the district will be working with this company instead.

  • The board approved a trip to Spain for high school students for March 22 through March 31 at a cost of $3,550 per student. Superintendent Dr. John Bierwirth said that this trip is at no cost to the district.
  • The middle school trip to Boston for $302 a student was approved.

  • Assistant Superintendent Dr. Deirdre Hayes announced the 2013 National Merit scholarship semifinalists:

  • The district’s financial report, which was audited by R.S. Abrams & Co., for the school year that ended on June 30, 2012 was accepted by the board.
  • The board accepted its annual review and the update to its initial risk assessment report for the school year that ended on June 30, 2012. The review was done by Pappas & Company.
  • The board adopted a new concussion policy after a second reading.

The next meeting of the Herricks Board of Education will be on Thursday, November 15 at 7:15 p.m. at the community center.
