The Herricks Board of Education held a meeting on Thursday, October 4. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Annual Professional Performance Review

  • The board approved a revised version of its Annual Professional Performance Review plan.
  • Assistant Superintendent Helen Costigan said Superintendent Dr. John Bierwirth noted that this plan is very similar to its previous iteration and that once the board approved it, Dr. Bierwirth was 99 percent sure that it would be approved by the state in the next week or two.

  • Educational Mathematics Curriculum Consulting was approved as a consultant at $1,000 a day for 10 days to conduct staff development in math regarding the New York State Common Core State Standards.

Other Board News

  • The board approved of the plan for the Herricks Middle School students for the boat trip at a cost of $45 a student. This year’s trip will be leaving from the World’s Fare Marina, and because the district is using its own buses, there was a sizable cost savings, Costigan said.

The next meeting of the Herricks Board of Education will be on Thursday, October 18 at 7:15 p.m. at the community center.
