Herricks High School Students Take Up “The Challenge” for 2013

Meet the members of the Herricks High School team.

Students from Herricks High School will once again participate on “The Challenge,” Cablevision’s TV quiz show for high school students this school year.

The Herricks High School team is represented by seniors Brian Chen, James Griffo, Ben Pleat, (captain) Karishma Tank and juniors Sachit Singal and Ankoor Talwar. The academc advisors is Maria Puntillo.

They will take on West Hempstead in the first round on Feb. 10, 2013.

A total of 192 high schools will compete for the Tri-State crown on the show’s 15th season which kicked off November 6. In addition to teams from Nassau and Suffolk counties, schools from the Bronx, Brooklyn, Westchester/Lower Hudson Valley, New Jersey and Connecticut will be competing. This season, Long Island will be represented by 32 high schools from Nassau County and 32 high schools from Suffolk County.

Participating schools advance through a series of elimination rounds, with one school in each region being crowned regional champion and winning $2,500 for their school. The winning teams from each region go on to “The Challenge” Championship where they square off in a Tri-State Showdown. The school awarded the title of Tri-State Champion will receive $10,000 in prize money and each student participating in the final “Challenge” Championship game will receive $500. 

A new match-up can be seen every Sunday through Friday at 6 p.m. on MSG Varsity, Cablevision channel 14.
