Nassau County Community Liaison Officer Visits Denton
first graders worked on developing their skills as persuasive letter writers. One of Mrs. Emily Topel’s students wrote a letter persuading the Nassau County Police Commissioner to allow her and her classmates to tour the .
In her letter, she expressed an interest in being a police officer when she grows up. Not only did she persuade the commissioner for a tour, but he sent the Community Liaison Officer to visit her personally to answer her questions about pursuing a career as a police officer. Mrs. Topel is looking forward to arranging this tour for her class.
St. Patrick's Day Leprechaun Fun at Denton
Mischievous leprechauns visited Denton kindergarten classes to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. In Mrs. Beth Rosenman/ Mrs. Diana Edward’s classes the children decorated hats for their friend, “Lucky” the leprechaun.
When they arrived to class on Friday, they discovered that Lucky had used his magical powers to shrink the hats to thimble size. Lucky called the children by cell phone to wish them all a happy St. Patrick’s Day.
Jump with Jill Presentation at Denton Elementary
“We get only one body take care of it,” was one of the messages that presenter “Jump with Jill” brought to Denton students this past month. Students in grades K-5 were clapping, jumping, singing and shouting with Jill during the Jump with Jill Rock n Roll Nutrition Program.
Students enjoyed the up tempo performance about nutrition and fitness. The program’s goal is to empower kids to love and respect their bodies through exercise and healthy eating choices The Denton PTA sponsoring the program.
Denton Flash Mob
Denton students recently joined schools across the country in working with families to set students on the path to a healthy future during Healthy and Wellness Week.
The highlights of the week included a wellness fair and “flash mob” in which more than 600 students, staff and parents performed a dance-inspired exercise routine to the Beyonce song “Move Your Body.”
Denton Physical Education teachers Mike Lesak and Debbie Masterson organized these events with the goal of teaching children fun ways to be more active and lead a healthy lifestyle.
