Herricks Trustee Gounaris Tries to Find Right Balance

Herricks trustee talks about juggling personal and professional responsibilities with school board position.

“There are matters that are very personal to come up at times,” Herricks Board of Education Vice President James Gounaris said toward the start of the Feb. 28 meeting at the community center as he explained how he tries to juggle all of his responsibilities.

Gounaris noted that during the last board meeting, he was checking his phone because his nine-year-old child was sick at home and as a father he was trying to figure out how to get the prescription his daughter needed from the pharmacy.

On Feb. 28, his phone was also nearby on the board table because a relative was in the hospital.

He said that he does his best to balance everything between his personal life, his job and his other commitments, including the school board and that he is able to multi-task.

“I am really committed to being a part of this team,” Gounaris, a Chaminade graduate, said.

Herricks Superintendent Dr. John Bierwirth noted that he appreciated Gounaris acknowledging why his phone was on the table.
