Letter to the Editor: Jennifer Kerrane Running for NHP-GCP Board of Education

New Hyde Park resident Jennifer Kerrane announces candidacy for NHP-GCP School Board.

My name is Jennifer Kerrane and I have been a New Hyde Park resident since 2004 and am running for a seat on the NHP-GCP Board of Education. I have 3 children, two presently in the Manor Oaks School. I am an active and knowledgeable Manor Oaks parent and PTA member. Presently, I am a teacher and co-owner of a nursery school in Manhasset.

My past experience as an elementary school teacher for the NYC Board of Education will assist in my participation on the board. Although the times are continually changing, the mission statement for all children should remain our first priority, regardless of our fiscal challenges.

I am an advocate for the children and would like to be a liaison between the community and the board. In order to express the community’s ever changing needs to the board, I would like to bridge the gap between them and the board. Many community members are not aware that their opinions are welcome, needed and definitely do matter. Due to the constant economic and educational demands of our society, it is time for a much needed change on our board.

If elected to the board, I would like to help continue to present an acceptable budget to the taxpayers. Although challenging, at budget time I would like to insure that the needs of the children are met and not the first to be cut. She would also like to improve the image of the board by reassuring all residents that the board is put in place to provide the best solutions to their needs and to continue to provide a positive and successful educational experience for all children in the district.
