Native American Author Visits Denton Avenue School

James Bruchac tells story from his book, Rabbit's Snow Dance, to Herricks students.

James Bruchac, a Native American author, recently visited Herricks students at the Denton Avenue School.

Bruchac enthralled the children with his talents a storyteller and treated them to some of his favorite Native American legends.

During his presentation, the author explained how growing up hearing the Native legends from his father, Joseph Bruchac, and his real life experiences in the wilderness have influenced his storytelling and writing.

He told the story from his book, Rabbit’s Snow Dance, a funny Iroquois tale about patience and the seasons. During the story, he engaged the students in a chanting the rabbit’s snow song.
