New Hyde Park and Herricks Schools to Remain Closed for Rest of Week

Schools still without power and will stay closed through November 2 in aftermath of Sandy.

Students from both the Herricks and New Hyde Park Memorial High School in the Sewanhaka Central High School District will have a grand total of 9 straight days off (including the weekends) after administrators announced that the buildings will remain closed through November 2 due to lack of power from the effects of Hurricane Sandy.

Students will have missed a full week of school due to the hurricane’s effects and power outages.

Meanwhile, students in the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park School District will have at least Thursday off since the elementary school buildings will be shut.

Notices of the closure were posted on the SewanhakaNew Hyde Park-Garden City Park and Herricks school websites on Tuesday.

There is no word yet on how the classes will be made up.
