New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Candidate Helen Lewandowski

Teacher's aide is running for a seat on the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Board of Education.

Helen Lewandowski, a teacher’s aide in the New Hyde Park Road School, declared her candidacy for the  School Board, running against incumbent on the May 15 vote.

Known around the community as Lynn, Lewandowski said that she is running because she “strongly believes that everyone in the community must step up, get involved with their ideas, energy, expectations.”

A New Hyde Park resident since 1978, she along with husband Lou have two grown sons who attended and . Lewandowski has 20 years working in the public and private education system and in the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park District in 1991.

Following time as a lunchroom aide and substitute secretary, she then spent 5 years as a Computer Aide/Secretary to the director of pupil personnel services followed by time a substitute secretary in the superintendent’s office.

Lewandowski previously worked in the Great Neck School District as a secretary to the assistant superintendent of special education for approximately 4 years. From 2004-2006, she worked as secretary to the principal of the .

Outside of school, Lewandowski provides private health care to the sick, elderly and hospice.

She stated that she feels her school experience and working inside the administrative offices and classrooms could “bring a welcomed perspective” to the board.

She has the ability to be an effective communicator, make fiscally responsible decisions, while consciously being aware of employee needs and community expectations. She enjoys meeting a variety of people and is willing to reach out to the community.

Lewandowski added that she hopes to “create a more family- friendly atmosphere that is sensitive to the needs of all community and staff members” and “we should continue to make New Hyde Park the place where people want to live, learn and work together.”
