New Hyde Park High Blood Drive Collects 92 Pints

More than 100 people were registered to donate.

The once again succeeded in getting a good turnout for its fall blood drive on Oct. 19 as 92 pints were collected all together.

Similar to past blood drives in the school, the Red Cross Club officers went into
the English classes to inform the students about the importance of donating blood. This time, not only students, but also many families and teachers all came in enthusiastically to donate.

A total of 106 people registered to donate and 83 were approved, as some people could not meet the requirements that were needed to donate blood. Ms. Rafiq, the advisor of the Red Cross Club remarked, “The students stepped up this time, as they always do. We also had more faculty members come out during this drive, but we'd like to get more.”

The whole event was very organized and well-executed.  The Red Cross Club worked diligently to spread the news about the drive via Facebook, posters, and flyers. The Blood Drive also was an excellent opportunity for New Hyde Park students to show that they are emerging as leaders not only within their school, but also of the wider community.
