New Hyde Park High Students Receive Academic Awards at Sewanhaka

Before the board of education meeting, students were recognized for their academic achievements.

The following students were honored for their academic achievements this year before the Sewanhaka district board of education meeting on Tuesday night.

  • The high school won first place for the largest chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America in New York State. 
  • Amanda Esteves took second place in the SkillsUSA regional contest for basic cosmetology. She also took third place in the SkillsUSA cosmetology junior category.
  • Carolyn Montvidas took second place in LIBTA for business communications.
  • Jerin Thomas took second place in LIBTA for computer applications.
  • Rosa Lo took first place in SkillsUSA for architectural drafting.
  • These students were recognized as distinuguished Key Clubbers: Jessica Calabro, Pauline Janeo, Justin Rezin and Nicholas Viviano.
  • Bryan Baracaldo, Maryann Long and Fernando Orellana took second place in the National Spanish exam level three.
  • Timothy Foley, Andrew Valentin and Linda Zhang took third in the National Spanish exam level three.
  • Alyssa Malliae took first place in the Association of Math Teachers New York State poster contest.
  • These students were given the designation of outstanding delegate at the American University Model UN Conference: Glen Cantave, Kerri-Leigh Heesemann, Kahina Toubal, Scott Valane and Amanda Varrone.
  • Briana Messina, Michelle Pollizano, Nicholas Viviano and were given the designation of outstanding position paper at the American University Model UN Conference.
  • These students were given the designation of best delegate at the American University Model UN Conference: Thomas Campbell, Andrew Chang, Paige Sferrazza, Geoffrey Si and Aaron Weinstock.
  • These students received honorable mention at the American University Model UN Conference: Stacy Chacko, Dylan Lopez, Kayla Robinson and Kevin Sanchez.
  • The New Hyde Park High School team won the best delegation award at the American University Model UN Conference.
  • Josh Johnikutty received the second place award in the division Andromeda division and the environmental Andromeda division at the New York State Science and Engineering Fair.
  • Chris Joseph and Roshan Rankeesoon achieved the national exam level at the 2011 Chemistry Olympiad.
  • Nirmala Singh and Kevin Sanchez were recognized for being on the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council.
