New Hyde Park Memorial French Club Makes Sandwiches for Soup Kitchen

French students brought in supplies to make sandwiches for Mary Brennan Inn in Hempstead

By Gurpreet Chahal

On Thursday December 12, New Hyde Park Memorial High School’s French Club gave back to the community by making and donating sandwiches to a local soup kitchen.

Madame Lori Kort’s French students brought in bread, cold cuts, and condiments to make the sandwiches. Over seventy French students grades seven through twelve gathered afterschool to help make the sandwiches. Having helped make the sandwiches myself, it felt amazing to give back and volunteer our time for such a good cause.

Within an hour, we had gone far past our original goal of  one hundred fifty        sandwiches. In that single hour, we made a grand total of  three hundred sixty sandwiches to donate to the Mary Brennan Inn in Hempstead.  It was truly incredible to see what an impact we can make when we all come together for a common beneficent cause.

The French Club officers were of great help in planning the event and ensuring that everything went smoothly (Danielle Dziomba, President, Marisa Bartos and Amanda Connors, Vice Presidents, Shawn Zachariah, Treasurer, Stephanie Hsu, Treasurer and myself, Sophia Weiss and Miguel Guerra, Publicity Team). We really enjoyed helping out and making a difference and definitely plan on doing something similar in the near future.
