New Hyde Park Memorial Hosts Architecture Career Day

Instructor Ron Ritacco brought back several past students to speak on career path.

On Friday, December 6, New Hyde Park Memorial High School held an Architecture Career Expo in the library. Architecture instructor Ron Ritacco brought back several of his past students who have gone on to the field of architecture.

Over 100 present architecture students as well as many administrators attended the event.  Memorial grads Ms. Julie Janeo (2005), Ms. Alex Vigliarolo (2008), Ms. Pascale Dugue (2012) headlined the event.

Frank Ferrantello from Total Land Surveying and Engineering gave a dynamic presentation to the students.  In addition Mr. William Palmore, Associate Professor of Architecture & Design from New York Institute of Technology and his Asst. Ms. Amanda Press, spoke about the educational opportunities that the students may pursue.

Capping off the program, John Koscinski and Robert Stephenson, architect teachers from the Sewanhaka Occupation Ed Department, spoke about the three year sequence in architecture that is offered through the district.

“The part of the program that really caught my attention was the real example of an architect’s doings and projects that are current in the field today, ” said Robert Mirabile, an architect student in grade 9.

“I was really proud of my ex-students on how they reached their goals and became Architectural Engineers and the example they set for my current students,” Ritacco said.
