New Hyde Park Memorial Ranked No. 70 in New York State

U.S. News places high school among other silver award winners on 2012 list.

Students at just got a new badge to show: a silver from the U.S. News & World Report rankings of the best high schools in the country.

The annual report put New Hyde Park at 70th within New York State and at No. 533 nationally for education. Student proficiency in Math and English were rated as 3.6 across the board (out of four), but the college readiness index indicated only 44.4 percent of students were ready to go onto the next level. Only 49 percent of students participated in advanced placement (AP) coursework.

This year the report took in information from nearly 22,000 high schools.

According to the criteria:

To determine the Best High Schools national rankings, schools were first analyzed at the state level in terms of how well students in each school performed on state assessments, taking into account the test scores of disadvantaged students (low-income, Hispanic, and black), who tend to score lower on tests.

High schools that made it through this analysis were then eligible to be ranked nationally, in terms of college readiness.

meanwhile, did not achieve a badge, scoring Math and English proficiencies of 3.5 and 3.7 (out of four), respectively and a college readiness index of 55 percent. The AP participation rate at Herricks was 64 percent.
