New Hyde Park Memorial Students of the Month: February 2013

These students were named as students of the month for their respective departments.

The following students at New Hyde Park Memorial High School have been named as students of the month for their respective departments and was submitted by the teachers of the respective departments:

Math: Kaajal Ahuja

  • Kaajal Ahuja is in Mrs. Pazik’s Algebra2/Trigonometry Advanced class and has been chosen as the Student of the Month because of her hard work, dedication and high grades. 
  • During the first marking period, she had average grades in math class.
  • She started to attend extra help more often during the second marking period and, as a result, her grades have sky rocketed. 
  • Her current average is well into the nineties.

Social Studies: Renjini Antony

  • Renjini Antony is an eleventh grade student at New Hyde Park Memorial High School.
  • She has maintained an average in the high 90’s all year.
  • Antony is also a member of the Model UN and SPEC Club where her dedication, hard work and service are evident.

English: Rebecca Justiniano

  • Justiniano has maintained a 95-plus average since the beginning of school and has a perfect homework average all year.
  • Her vocabulary is quite impressive for her age, which is a testament to her voracious reading outside of class.
  • She writes concise, clear prose and has developed a mature writer’s voice.

Science: Sam Kooran

  • Sam Kooran is an eighth grade student in Mr. Stagnitta’s Advanced Earth Science Class.
  • He attained an average of 100 for the first marking period and is maintaining that high level of excellence in the second marking period.
  • He has shown a great enthusiasm for science and almost always stays after class to ask questions about the lesson or inquire about some other area of science that he has read about or seen on the internet.
  • Kooran is a member of the Science Research Program and, as stated by Ms. Kosmij, is “highly motivated, very independent and thinks outside the box.”

Academy of Finance: Olivia Pitz

  • Pitz is a member of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and has been inducted into the Business Honor Society.
  • Over the summer she completed her Academy of Finance summer internship at New Hyde Park Memorial High School in the main office.
  • “Working with the assistant principals and administrative assistants was a rewarding experience,” she said. “I enjoyed coming to work each day and learned that it’s important to like what you do each and every day.”
  • Next year Pitz will begin her college career. She is currently deciding between C.W. Post University, Molloy College and Adelphi University. 
  • She plans to major in Business with a concentration in Accounting.

Business/Technology: Joann Varghese

  • Over the past several years Varghese has successfully completed three business classes, which included Career and Financial Management, Business Communications, and Keyboarding.
  • Currently, she is enrolled in Computer Applications and College Accounting.
  • Varghese has done very well in her business classes in the past and is having continued success in both business classes thus far.
  • She would like to pursue a career as a Certified Public Accountant and she plans to attend Baruch College next fall.

Art: Nicolette Vitiello

  • Vitiello has shown remarkable work in Digital Design I.
  • As only a sophomore, she has taken on the challenge of enrolling in multiple art classes, including Digital Design I and Drawing and Painting.
  • With her keen eye for design and layout, she has been able to excel in using Adobe Photoshop by dedicating herself inside and outside the classroom.

Music: Brittany Willoughby

  • Brittany Willoughby is enrolled in the Senior High Band this year.
  • She is very much into music and takes lessons for flute and is the uniform coordinator for the New Hyde Park Memorial Marching Band and she is also Vice President of the Senior High Band.
  • She has participated in the District Concert Band, the District Marching Band, and NYSSMA for multiple years in a row.
  • She hopes to continue her musical career during the rest of her time at New Hyde Park Memorial.

Student Activities: Clara Wilson

  • Wilson is a consummate professional when it comes to her duties as copy editor on the Lance staff. 
  • The combination of her tireless commitment and strong writing sensibilities has been essential to the production of the yearbook.
  • She has demonstrated such a natural affinity for weaving together the personal experience of high school with the subtle nuances of prose.
  • Wilson is always willing to take on responsibilities outside of her own without the slightest hesitation.
  • Despite all the tremendous workload placed on this young lady, she has continued to impress with her diligence and the lasting stories she has left for her graduating class.

World Languages: Ania Zolyniak

  • Zolyniak is current enrolled in Italian 8.
  • This is her excellent second language achievement and she is maintaining an A average and is member of the Italian Club.
