New Hyde Park Memorial Students of the Month: June 2012

These students were named as students of the month for their respective departments.

The following students at have been named as students of the month for their respective departments and was submitted by the teachers of the respective departments:

Academy of Finance: Nirmala Singh

  • The Academy of Finance is proud to recognize Nirmala Singh as Student of the Month. Nirmala is an outstanding academic student.  Her teachers report that she is a well-mannered, conscientious student, who is a pleasure to have in class. She is also involved in many school activities and holds leadership roles in each. Nirmala serves as student council president, vice-president of the Class of 2012, International Culture Club (ICC) President, FBLA Co-President, and School Store President. Nirmala has been inducted into the National Honor Society, and the National Business Honor Society. This past summer Nirmala completed her Academy of Finance summer work-based learning experience at Parkway Pest Services located in New Hyde Park. On the job, Nirmala performed diversified administrative tasks. “What a wonderful opportunity to work and learn!” she said. “I enjoyed going to work where I was encouraged to ask many questions, this was a great lesson for me.” Next year Nirmala will begin her college career.  She plans to attend St. John’s University and major in Business Administration with a concentration in Public Relations.

Art: Katie Bak

  • As a member of Studio Art, Katie Bak has shown great competence in all the art assignments that she has undertaken. Her commitment to excellence as well as her attention to detail has afforded her with the opportunity to create some truly beautiful works of art. Katie approaches each new medium or unit with ambition, drive and determination. Throughout the entire art process, Katie maintains a calm, studious and enthusiastic demeanor which not only serves her well but also serves as a role model for her classmates.  Katie currently has a 98 average, indicative of her outstanding efforts.  Currently, one of Katie’s works of art can be seen in the showcase outside of room 141.

Business: Anupkumar Senthil

  • The Business/Technology Department is proud to announce that Anupkumar Senthil has been named “Student of the Month” for June. Anup is currently enrolled in College Accounting in Mrs. Salamone’s class. Next year he will take College Marketing, Business Communications and Personal Finance. Anup is the Historian for the Future Business Leaders of America and recently attended the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Rochester, NY where he competed in the College Accounting event. In addition, Anup has played soccer for the Gladiator’s Junior Varsity team. When he is not busy with his school activities, he finds time to work at the Student Academic Center. He plans to attend CUNY Baruch where he plans on majoring in Business Management and Accounting and eventually obtain an MBA.

World Languages: Katie Bak

  • Katie Bak has achieved student of the month for June in World Languages. Katie is a freshman is Ms. Salcedo’s level 1 Spanish class. She likes to help her peers when they need help. Katie is involved in many other activities which make her a versatile student and is an active member of the Key Club and the National Junior Honor Society. She plays outside sports such as volleyball and basketball. Her favorite classes are Science, Spanish and Art. Katie hopes to be a Science teacher in the future.

Math: Nimi Patel

  • Nimi Patel has been named the Mathematics Student of the Month. Nimi is currently a student in the eighth grade Advanced Mathematics class. She is an extremely talented problem solver with a wonderfully intuitive mathematical mind. While this ability enables her to maintain one of the highest averages in the class, Nimi is incredibly caring about others and is always the first to share her skills with her classmates.

Music: Megan Miter

  • Megan Miter has been an outstanding member of the New Hyde Park Orchestra program for the past 5 years.  She is a very accomplished cellist, playing at NYSSMA level 6 solo for the past 2 years, receiving a rating of “A” each time. Besides her participation in the Senior High Orchestra, Megan is also a member of the String Ensemble, a regular participant in the District Music Festival, and the Orchestra for Talented Youth. In addition to her involvement with the realms of classical music, Megan also enjoys rock n’ roll and the blues. Along with the Cello she also plays the guitar, electric bass and drums in various bands.  Megan plans to continue her musical ambitions into college and beyond through her interest in music business and production.

Science: Victoria Bialczak

  • Victoria Bialczak is a student in Mr. Stagnitta’s seventh grade Advanced Life Science Class. She has maintained a 100 average for the first three Marking Periods. Victoria is also a member of the Girl’s Varsity Tennis Team where she plays second singles. She is also on the Junior High Basketball Team and the Junior High Cheerleading squad. She aspires to be a doctor one day.

Social Studies: Carlos Solis

Carlos Solis is currently a student in Mr. Sanossian’s United States History and Government class. He demonstrates his commitment to academics through his membership in both the Business and Spanish Honor Societies, as well as through extracurricular. As busy as these commitments make him, along with his membership in FBLA and the Spanish Club, he also volunteers his time to help in the school store.

Activities: Diane Choi and Abin Thannickal

  • Diligence. Determination. Dedication. These three words clearly describe juniors Diane Choi and Abin Thannickal, current news editors for The Chariot. These two students complement each other nicely; they lead by example within the confines of the Student Activities Office and they act as mentors for the younger members of the staff.  Diane and Abin are both well-rounded, multifaceted students, whose utmost devotion and pride for their schoolwork, coupled with their endless contributions toward the various extracurricular activities they’re involved in, truly define the type of individuals they are.  Without their tireless hard work and dedication, the completion of each issue of the school newspaper would not have been possible. Diane and Abin were selected as co-editors-in-chief for the 2012-2013 school year. 

Music: Matthew D’Amico

  • The New Hyde Park Music Department’s Student of the Month is Matthew D’Amico. Matthew is a singer who has attended the NYSSMA solo festival for 5 years and has been selected for All County Chorus for the last three consecutive years. Outside school, Matthew enjoys acting with the Holy Spirit Players and singing with his church choir.

Music: Victoria Bialczak

  • Victoria Bialczak began the piano 4 years ago. Quickly to follow she started playing the flute in the school band. She began studying the voice in fourth grade at elementary school.  Victoria has moved up the NYSSMA ladder until she is now involved with the upper levels. Victoria’s is also a member of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra.  This relationship has led her to the realization that music is her passion.  This summer she will attend the sleep-away Camp Long Lake where she will sharpen her abilities and have some fun.
