New Hyde Park Memorial Students of the Month: June 2013

These students were named as students of the month for their respective departments.

The following students at have been named as students of the month for their respective departments and was submitted by the teachers of the respective departments:

Student Activities: Renjini Antony and Harvinder Bassi

  • According to French writer and film director Marguerite Duras, “A true journalist is someone who looks at the world and the way it works, someone who takes a close look at things every day and reports what he or she sees, someone who represents the world for others.” This maxim clearly and accurately epitomizes the efforts consistently displayed by juniors Renjini Antony and Harvinder Bassi throughout the school year.
  • As sectional editors, these two students complement each other nicely; they lead by example within the confines of the Student Activities Office and they act as mentors for the younger members of the staff.
  • Renjini and Harvinder are both well-rounded and talented students, whose utmost devotion and pride for their schoolwork, coupled with their endless contributions to The Chariot, truly embody the type of individuals they are.
  • Without their tireless hard work and dedication, the completion of the Student Council election issue could not have been possible. It comes as no surprise that Renjini and Harvinder were selected as co-editors-in-chief for the 2013-2014 school year.
Music: Noelle Becker and Ciara Lynch
  • Noelle and Ciara are two of the most valuable, hard-working, dedicated students the New Hyde Park Music Department is privileged to have amongst its members. They have been the mainstay and heartbeat of our Department for the past four years.
  • While they are members of the Orchestra, they are well known to the entire Music staff as the girls to go to when you need help getting things done.  They help put the concert programs together, help with fund raising efforts, NYSSMA, the District Music Festival and anything that needs to be done.
  • They will still be with the school in the 2013-14 year, training other students to take on responsibilities and jobs so that the traditions they have established will continue.
Physical Education: Ariana Bruschi
  • Ariana is an outstanding student in the Leader’s Physical Education program. She is an excellent role model for the younger students in and out of the gymnasium. In each class, Ariana demonstrates leadership, communication and cooperation skills.
  • She is part of the Varsity Field Hockey and Varsity Lacrosse team where she works hard everyday and shows sportsmanship towards her opponents. Ariana represents New Hyde Park Memorial with pride and shows school spirit by being on the Varsity Cheerleading squad as well.
  • Ariana is respected by her peers and the Physical Education staff for being a hardworking student and athlete.
English: Camila Dilone
  • Camila Dilone is seen by her teachers as a hard worker and very diligent when it comes to her studies.  Both teachers and peers alike flock to Camila because of her warm personality and demure demeanor.
  • Many of her peers admire Camila's attributes and look to her for advice and assistance. Camila is a very inquisitive young lady who is willing to put forth an effort to ensure that she accomplishes all tasks with efficiency and effectiveness. Because of these traits, Camila is a clear candidate for this month's Student of the Month for English.
Academy of Finance: Christiana Kastalek
  • The Academy of Finance is proud to recognize Christiana Kastalek as Student of the Month.
  • Christiana is an outstanding academic student.  Her teachers report that she is a dedicated, hard-working student that is a pleasure to have in class.  She is also a leader in school, the community and on the field in her extracurricular activities.  Christiana is the Vice President of the Key Club, a member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and participates in Varsity Soccer. Christiana has been inducted into the Business Honor Society and World Language Honor Society.
  • Over the summer Christiana completed her Academy of Finance summer internship at Sperry Federal Credit Union in Garden City Park, New York.  Christiana says, “I very much enjoyed working at Sperry Federal Credit Union this past summer.  In my position, I met new people and faced new challenges as I learned about the world of banking.”
  • Next year Christiana will begin her college career. She will be attending SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Her career goals include working with animals.
Health: Gabrielle La Sala
  • Gabrielle La Sala is a great student, who always is ready to participate in class. She is a pleasure to have in class and is currently maintaining a 96 percent average.
  • Gabrielle is well liked by her peers and works well with her classmates.
Art: Jesmine Romanelli
  • Jesmine Romanelli is Student of the Month for the Art Department. Jes is an outstanding student in Mrs. Lennea's Media Arts class and can be seen with a camera in hand at all times.
  • She was recently selected to participate in a district wide art exhibition at the Elmont Public Library where she displayed a wonderful digital image of a guitar amp and cords. Jes will be continuing her photographic studies in Advanced Placement Two-Dimensional Design next year.
Family and Consumer Science: Allen Philip
  • The Family and Consumer Sciences Student of the Month is Allen Philip.  He was chosen for his excellent effort, determination and achievement. Allen is presently taking Home and Career Skills and is accomplishing the task marvelously.
  • Allen has expressed an interest in doing very well in school so he can enter an Ivy League institution of his choice.
  • He stated, “Mrs. Mejia’s Home and Career Skills course has given me the tools to succeed for the future.”
  • The Family and Consumer Sciences Department wishes Allen much success in his goals and hopes that he will continue to be a great asset to our department.
Social Studies: Joshua Rotstein
  • Joshua Rotstein is a sophomore in Ms. Borgogelli-Ferraro’s Global Studies class. Besides excelling on exams, Joshua displays a true interest in history. He comes to class each day with a smile on his face and a desire to soak in the subject matter.
  • Whether we are discussing World War II or the Iranian Revolution, Joshua has something to add. His inquisitive mind and love for the subject matter makes him a perfect candidate for Social Studies Student of the Month. It also makes him a pleasure to have in class. 
Science: Christina Saji
  • Christina Saji displays intellect and inquisitiveness for the sciences that is truly exemplary. She is an amazing role model for her classmates.  She is a perfect example of a dedicated, focused, and hardworking student who truly values her education.
  • Always insightful, Christina asks questions that reveal her understanding of the science curriculum and how conscientious she is regarding her studies. Christina has maintained an outstanding average in Advanced Science all year and has shown that she can balance both academics and extracurricular activities in a remarkable way.
  • She not only has impressive accomplishments in the classroom, but she also applies her hard work and devotion to helping younger students succeed with their studies by tutoring and encouraging children.
  • Christina loves playing volleyball, soccer, and basketball and her passion for being involved makes her a well-rounded individual.
  • She has the dream of becoming a cardiologist.
World Languages: John Stampfli
  • The World Languages Department congratulates ninth grader John Stampfli on his excellent second language achievement.
  • John is currently enrolled in Italian Level 2A. and is a highly motivated and dedicated student. His hard work and love of Italian is evident; John’s current average is 100 percent.
  • He is very cooperative and eagerly helps his classmates when needed.  He is an excellent role model and an inspiration for his fellow language students.
Math: Anisha Thomas
  • Anisha Thomas has done an exceptional job this year in Integrated Algebra. Her strong work ethic and desire to succeed have helped her maintain an A average.
  • In class Anisha has been a strong leader during group activities and has shown a willingness to take the time to help her classmates.
  • In preparation for the regents, Anisha is regularly attending the Algebra review classes as well as dedicating time at home toward her studies.  Congratulations Anisha.
