New Hyde Park Memorial Students Receive District Academic Awards

Before Tuesday's board of education meeting began, academic awards were distributed to students in the district. The following students were honored during that presentation.

1. The Art Supervisors Association Senior Scholarship Award: Dora Aviles
2. Newsday Scholar Artist Award: Andrew Chang
3. Key Club Distinguished Lieutenant Governor: Nicholas Viviano
4. Distinguished Key Club Members: Katja Anuth, Dana Davis, Pauline Janeo, Christiana Kastalek, Victoria Lofaro, Gina Marrano, Justin Rezin and Nicholas Viviano.
5. "The Arena", the high school's literary magazine got an excellent rating from the National Council for Teachers of English. Editors Geri Lynn Roth and Jeffrey Zhou received the award for this.
6. 2012 Ivy League Model United Nations Outstanding Delegate: Andrew Chang
7. 2012 Ivy League Model UN Honorable Delegate: Chaheti Bansal and Michael Lopez.
8. Members of the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council: Megan Brown, Devon DeSanna, Cristian Hidalgo, Amanda Kahn, Kristen Lynch, Lauren Lynch, Nimi Patel, Justin Rezin, Joseph Richards, Jalissa Sanchez, Nirmala Singh, Gabriella Tomasini, Grant Wong and Michael Zornberg.

After the presentation, Superintendent Dr. Ralph Ferrie said that the “students are phenomenal” and that he has had “a wonderful experience this year.”
