New Hyde Park Memorial Students Win 2013 Journalism Awards

School newspaper and video club take home awards for best news broadcast, news website.

Students from New Hyde Park Memorial High School’s school newspaper, The Chariot and video club, NHP Productions, recently won awards at the Long Island University High School Journalism Awards Competition, held at C.W. Post University on March 1.

This competition includes high schools from all over Long Island and recognizes outstanding achievement in student reporting and broadcasting.

Several students from New Hyde Park Memorial High School received accolades for their work:

  1. Seniors Vishnu Anil and Jaypee Perez earned 1st place honors for Best News Broadcast.
  2. Sophomores Kyra Siton and Amanda Ng earned 1st place honors for Best OnlineNews Story.
  3. Senior Tomasz Pietruszka earned 2nd place honors for Best Newspaper Web Site.
  4. Sophomore Teena Thomas earned 2nd place honors for Best Online Features Story.

Their advisors are Mr. Michael Stencel, Mrs. Mary Kay Mannle and Mr. Greg Vedder.
