New Hyde Park’s Students of the Month

Fourteen students have been named Student of the Month from different departments.

What a year it has been so far for the student’s of . Fourteen students have been named “Student of the Month” in various departments for their hard work and dedication in school.

Here is a list of the students, along with a short description of their achievement:

Ancy Alexander, a 10th grader, was named Student of the Month for Family and Consumer Sciences. She was chosen for her excellent effort, determination and achievement in the Child Psychology and Development course.

Roby Daniel, an eighth-grader, was named Student of the Month for Math. Daniel is a Math 8A student that currently has a 100 percent average and was said to be a great problem solver who displays his talents both in class and at Mathletes events.

Julia Gabriel and Nathan Edwards are the proud recipients of Student of the Month for music. Both are seventh-grade students who love music. Gabriel plays the flute and has been taking private lessons for three years. Edwards started playing the trombone in fourth-grade and has enjoyed it ever since.

Jake Riekert is a seventh-grade student who was awarded Student of the Month for Social Studies. Riekert has maintained an average in the high 90s, has perfect attendance and is always respectful to his teachers and peers.

Jeremy Johnson was proudly announced Student of the Month for The Academy of Finance. His teachers reported that he is a well-mannered, conscientious student, who is a pleasure to have in class. Johnson is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and would like to attend New York Institute of Technology next year.  

Rebecca Justiniano, a seventh-grader, has worked hard to receive the Student of the Month award for English. Her teacher said she always does her best work and also contributes to classroom discussions in her own enthusiastic way.

Lorraine Mohan was selected Student of the Month for Science. She achieved a 96 average for the first quarter in her Regents Chemistry class and wants to pursue a career in pharmacy. Mohan is also involved in SPEC (Students Putting an End to Cancer) and has helped prepare dinners at the Ronald McDonald House of New Hyde Park.

Grace Lee, an eighth-grader, is the proud recipient of the Student of the Month for Art. She is very committed to her work and has an excellent attention to detail that has allowed her to make beautiful art. Lee will be receiving a grade of 100 for the first marking period and one of her works of art can be seen as part of a collaborative display in the showcase outside of room 114.

Brendan Parnell and Nicholas Pellegrino were the winners of Student of the Month for Physical Education. Parnell received a 100 percent grade average for the first marking period and was said to have a great sense of direction in all aspects of life. Pellegrino, a seventh-grader, was said to have demonstrated leadership and sportsmanship in all activities and the he is always willing to lend a helping hand to the Physical Education Department.

Joseph Richards was named Student of the Month for World Languages for both November and December. Richards is currently enrolled in Mr. Grossi’s 11th grade Spanish 3 class and has a 100 grade point average.

Steven Riekert is the proud recipient of Student of the Month for Business and Technology. He successfully completed Career and Financial management, Business Communications and Sports Marketing courses. Riekert also has continued success in Business Law and College Marketing and hopes to become a civil engineer after attending Penn State.

Robert Valli III was named Student of the Month for Health. His efforts have been said to be at the highest standards and that all his timely and neat assignments contribute to his 95 percent average.
