New Hyde Park Seniors Raise Money with Fashion Show

Twenty-five seniors got decked out to raise money for their prom.

Twenty-five students strutted their stuff on the catwalk Wednesday evening at the high school to raise money for their class to use on events such as prom.

Fashion show faculty coordinator Alison Finkelstein, a biology teacher at the school, reflected on what it's like to help and watch these students model after working with them for six years.

"It's sweet to see them all dressed up, driving cars, going off to college," Finkelstein said.

She also said that it was nice to see the students just dress up and have a fun night.

Another faculty coordinator Michael Kidonakis, an Earth science teacher, said that this is the culmination of six years of being at the school for these students.

Kidonakis and Finkelstein had been working on the fashion show for months now with the students between getting donations from local businesses to raffle off and getting the students outfitted in dresses and suit from David's Bridal and Dire respectively. The two were hoping to raise about $500 from the evening to go toward some of the seniors' upcoming events including prom. Approximately 40 people attended the fashion show.

Mollie Stein, who sported a light blue puffy dress as she called it, wasn't nervous about walking the catwalk set up in the school's Cafe B and said she was excited to do this with her classmates. Students Paige Sferrazza and Tom Campbell were the hosts for the evening, alternating between introducing each model and their outfit and announcing who won each raffle.

Jaleesa Tellis, who was doing Stein's hair before the show started, said that she wanted to take part in the fashion show but had to work some of the times when the group would meet up. She remarked that it "looks fun."
