New Hyde Park Seniors' Views on the School Budget

Some seem resigned to paying whatever the budget requires.

The Independent Seniors of New Hyde Park were recently visited by both the superintendent of the and the school districts; both and explained the current state of their respective district's budget.

During these presentations, the head of the Independent Seniors group, Kurt Langjahr, asked each superintendent if they would consider moving students from each of the school buildings into one centralized school to save on heating costs, et cetera. Both Katulak and Meierdiercks noted that this option currently isn't viable.

At Tuesday's Independent Seniors meeting at , Julia Maystrik noted that taxes have been going up basically every year and that this is just something that has to be paid.

Milly Olino added that she feels she needs to pay her taxes and thus send that money to the school districts because when she had children in the area seniors who did not have children in the district did that for her.
