NHP-GCP Board of Ed Recognizes 2013 Storytelling Winner (VIDEO)

Alaina Alias takes first place in annual Hillside Grade School contest.

For the past 18 years the Hillside Grade School has held its annual storytelling festival, where students at the school recite books for young readers from memory.

“The children are amazing in many ways,” Hillside Grade School Principal Karen Olynk said at the February 11 meeting of the New Hyde Park-Garden City Park Board of Education, “to memorize and breathe life into the written word.”

This year, Alaina Alias was given the honor for her recitation of “The Secret Science Project that Almost Ate the School” from memory.
